Carpet Yarns
What Goes Into Our Carpets Matters as Much as What Comes Out
Most carpet manufacturers buy their yarn from third-party suppliers. The yarn arrives on a truck, gets loaded onto a loom or tufting frame, and that's the extent of their involvement in the material. There is no control over provenance, processing, or consistency — just a purchase order and a hope that the quality holds.
At Nobel Carpets, we do things differently.
Every wool yarn used in our carpets and rugs is produced by Albany Spinning Mills — our sister company, located alongside our factory in Bandung, Indonesia. Albany receives certified 100% New Zealand wool in scoured form — meaning it has been cleaned and washed at source before leaving New Zealand — and then cards, dyes, blends, and spins it entirely in-house in Bandung.
Our polypropylene and nylon yarns are also produced in-house at Albany, giving us end-to-end control over every fibre that goes into a Nobel Carpets product.
This level of vertical integration is exceptionally rare in the carpet industry, and it is one of the most important reasons why Nobel Carpets can guarantee material quality, consistency, and traceability in a way that other manufacturers simply cannot.
Our Yarn Range
Wool Yarn
Our wool yarn begins its journey on the farms of New Zealand — one of the world's most respected sources of premium carpet wool. New Zealand wool is prized for its natural resilience, softness, crimp structure, and exceptional ability to absorb and hold dye, producing colours that are rich, consistent, and long-lasting.
Raw wool arrives at Albany Spinning Mills in Bandung as scoured wool — already cleaned and washed at source in New Zealand. From there, Albany's team cards, dyes, blends, and spins the wool entirely in-house, producing yarn that is tailored precisely to the performance requirements of our Axminster and hand-tufted production.
All wool used by Nobel Carpets carries the following certifications:
RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) — guaranteeing ethical farm practices and animal welfare.
Purelana — certifying 100% pure New Zealand wool content.
Full certification documentation is available on request for specifiers and procurement teams.
Our Yarn Range
Polypropylene Yarn
Our polypropylene yarn is produced in-house at Albany Spinning Mills in both BCF (Bulk Continuous Filament) and heat-set formats, across a wide range of counts and colours.
Polypropylene is inherently moisture and stain resistant, making it an ideal choice for high-traffic commercial environments where durability and ease of maintenance are priorities. It is the primary yarn used in our Wilton-woven carpets, wall-to-wall broadloom, and woven area rugs.
Nylon Yarn
Our nylon yarn is also produced in-house at Albany Spinning Mills, available in PA6 formulations and in Bright, Semi-Dull, and Dull finishes.Nylon is recognised for its exceptional strength, elasticity, and colourfastness — delivering vibrant, consistent colour performance over the long term. It is the substrate of choice for our Chromojet-printed nylon carpets and rugs, where colour definition and dye uptake are critical to the finished result.
The Difference It Makes
For the designers, architects, and developers who specify Nobel Carpets, our in-house yarn production means:
Guaranteed material quality. Every batch of yarn is produced to our own standards, under our own roof. There are no third-party variables in the supply chain.
Full traceability. From New Zealand farm to finished carpet, every stage of the wool journey is documented and certifiable. You can specify Nobel Carpets with complete confidence in what you are putting into your project.
Consistent colour. Because we control dyeing in-house, colour matching across production runs is precise and reliable — critical for large projects where multiple batches need to match seamlessly.
Ethical sourcing. Our RWS certification guarantees that the wool in your carpet comes from farms that meet internationally recognised standards for animal welfare and land management.
