The Chromojet Printing Process

Chromojet is a high-pressure digital injection printing system developed by Zimmer Austria — a company that has been at the forefront of carpet printing technology since 1980. Unlike surface printing methods, Chromojet injects pressurised dye directly and deeply into the pile of the carpet substrate using precision-controlled jets, without any machine parts touching the carpet surface.

This deep penetration process produces colours that are vivid, consistent, and highly resistant to fading — maintaining their intensity through years of foot traffic and cleaning. The system is capable of printing up to 16 colours per design, with dyes mixed directly on the pile surface to produce a virtually unlimited range of shades and gradients.

The Chromojet process supports resolutions up to 76 dpi — sufficient to reproduce intricate patterns, fine detail, complex gradients, and photographic imagery with precision and clarity at carpet scale.

The Chromojet system places almost no constraints on design complexity. It is equally suited to bold geometric repeats, intricate borders, photorealistic imagery, and precisely matched brand assets.

Custom Design Process

The design and production process for printed nylon carpets follows the same collaborative approach as our Axminster and hand-tufted ranges.

Our in-house design team works with you from concept to production-ready artwork. Whether you supply your own files or come to us with a brief, mood board, or brand guidelines, we will develop a design optimised for the Chromojet printing process. Clients supplying their own artwork or technical files are welcome to do so.

Up to two physical strike-off samples are produced for your review and approval before full production begins, allowing you to evaluate colour accuracy, pile weight, and pattern definition at true scale.
