Hand-tufted carpets and rugs occupy a unique position in interior design — sitting at the intersection of fine craft and total creative flexibility. Unlike woven carpets, hand-tufting allows for organic shapes, sculptural pile constructions, and virtually unlimited colour expression, making it the preferred technique for designers and architects who want a truly one-of-a-kind floor piece.

At Nobel Carpets, every hand-tufted rug is made to order at our own factory in Bandung, Indonesia — using certified 100% New Zealand wool and a carefully curated range of premium fibre options. There are no standard sizes, no shape restrictions, no colour limits, and no minimum order quantity. If you can design it, we can make it.

The Hand-Tufting Process

Hand-tufting is a skilled craft technique in which yarn is manually inserted into a canvas backing frame using a specialised tufting gun, loop by loop. This process gives the maker direct control over pile height, density, texture, and pattern — in a way that no machine can replicate.

Once tufted, each rug is finished with a latex backing for stability and durability, then hand-carved, sculpted, or trimmed depending on the specified construction. The result is a rug that is at once a functional floor covering and a piece of considered craft.

For interior designers working on bespoke residential or hospitality projects, hand-tufted rugs offer something no catalogue product ever can — a piece designed entirely around the space it will occupy.

Material Options

We offer a comprehensive range of fibre options to suit every design intent, performance requirement, and budget. All wool used in our hand-tufted rugs is certified 100% New Zealand wool, spun in-house at our sister company Albany Spinning Mills in Bandung.

Wool (100%)
The benchmark for luxury hand-tufted rugs. New Zealand wool offers natural resilience, superior softness, excellent colour saturation, and inherent soil and flame resistance. The finest choice for high-end residential and hospitality applications.

Viscose / Bamboo Silk
Delivers a lustrous, silk-like sheen and exceptional softness underfoot. Ideal for feature rugs and accent pieces where visual drama and light reflection are the priority.

Wool & Viscose / Bamboo Blend
Combines the durability and resilience of New Zealand wool with the sheen and tactile luxury of viscose or bamboo silk. A versatile choice for premium interiors where both performance and aesthetics matter.

Wool & Acrylic Blend
Offers the warmth and appearance of wool with enhanced durability and colour consistency. Well-suited to commercial applications where budget and longevity need to be balanced.

Acrylic & Viscose / Bamboo Blend
A cost-effective option that retains visual softness and sheen. Suitable for decorative rugs in lower-traffic areas or projects with tighter material budgets.

Shaggy Wool (100%)
Deep, luxurious pile in certified New Zealand wool. Creates a dramatic, tactile statement piece suited to boutique hotels, private residences, and high-end lounge spaces.

Shaggy Acrylic (100%)
The accessible alternative to shaggy wool — delivering a full, soft pile with strong colour options at a more competitive price point.
